Life and Mission of Brother Felix Y. Manalo


                                                God's Messenger in these Last Days






1886 MAY 10
- Birth of Brother Felix Y. manalo to Mariano Ysagun and Bonifacia Manalo at Sitio Calzada, taguig, Rizal. His name literally means "Happy Victor".



1886-1896

- At a young age, Brother Felix was taught by his mother to love and have reverence for God. When Old enough, Brother Felix was taught by maestrong Cario to read and write. He learned carabao herding and fishing.



1896
-Death of his father


1898
-He apprenticed in a photography studio owned by his uncle Manuel Manalo in Manila.


1900

- Brother Felix and his cousin Modesto stayed with their priest relative Mariano Borja in a parish house in Sampaloc, Manila. This was where he started reading the Bible and discovered. that many of the Catholic doctrines could not be found in it.



1903

- Joined the colorum movement. Joined the Methodist Church.


1904

- Entered the Methodist Theological Seminary in Caloocan, Rizal where he became a pastor at the age of 18. Sometimes afterwards, Brother Felix's mother died. He took his mother's surname out of his great affection of her.


1907

- After the Methodist Theological Seminary and the Presbyterian Ellinwood Bible Training School merged to become the Union Theological Seminary, Brother Felix was made a pastor of the Presbyterian Church.

Soo he discovered that many of the Presbyterian doctrines could also not be found in the Bible. He left the Presbyterian Church an joined the Misyon Kristiyana where, after years of studies and training, he was designated as an evangelist.


1911

- Joined the Seventh-day Adventists


1913 MAY 10

- Married Honorate de Guzman.


1913 NOVEMBER

- For three days and three nights, Brother Felix Manalo stayed in his room ang studied the words of God. Brother Felix Y. Manalo began preaching about the Iglesia Ni Cristo(Church of Christ) at the Atlantic Gulf & Pacifib Company (AG&P) Compound in Punta, sta. Ana, Manila.



1914

- The first baptism of the Church which was conducted in Pasig River. First worship service held in the house of Engracia and Apolinario Ramos.
Because of the fast increasing number of Church members, the worship service had to be transferred to the house of Brother Atanacio Morte where the first Holy Supper was also held.


- Brother Felix continued to propagate the gospel in various forums and trained the Church members in missionary works.


1914 MARCH 10



- Birth of Brother Felix's first child-- Siter Pilar(which means 'pillar') Manalo. She would become the first choir directress of the Church.


1914 JULY 27
- Official registration of the Iglesia Ni Cristo(Church of Christ) in the Philippines concurrent with the outbreak of World War I.




1914
-Establishment of the local congregations of Punta, Sta. Ana and Tipas.

1915

-Despite the intense persecution, the brethren actively participated in propagation and edification campaigns of the Church. As a result, the local congregations of Pateros and Buting were established; Tondo also became the site of the Church's office and the training of ministers called Ang Klase (The Class).

Brother Felix preachee in public plazas and participated in religious discussions and debates, resulting in the rapid growth of Church membership.

The first Church of Christ main office was established at Deodadto Street, Tondo. It would be later be transferred to Tondo (1917), then to Azcarraga, Manila (1917-1921), to Gagalangin, Tondo (1921-1922), and to Sampaloc, Manila (1922-1923).


1917 FEBRUARY 7
- Birth of Felix's second child - Sister Avelina(which means 'ability').



1916 - 1918

-The first propagation missions in the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Pampanga were started.


1918

- The first house of worship was built at Gabriela Streeth, Tondo. It was made of bamboo, sawali, and pawid cogon.

- Established the first Children's worship Service to teach God's words to the children of the church members through an easy question- and- answer method.


1918 DECEMBER 25
- Recognition was given to Brother Felix as an outstanding evangelist by the Misyon Kristiyana. The award was given to him at Teatro Gloria, Tondo, Manila.


1919 MAY
- Firs ordination of ministers. Included among those ordained by Brother Felix manalo were Brothers Justino Casanova and Federico Inocencio.

1919 SEPTEMBER


- Brother Felix made his first overseas journey to the US to continue his studies and gather more reference book on the Bible and other religions.


1920 MARCH 9

- Birth of Brother Felix's third child- Brother Dominador(which means 'dominant'). He played an integral role in the transition to the large concrete houses of worship by which the Church in known tody.


1921

- Return of Brother Felix from the US; Quelled the revolt begun by Teofilo Ora and Januario Ponce, who later established their own sect.




1922 DECEMBER 5

- Birth of Brother Felix's fourth child - Brother Salvador (which means 'salvation')





1923

- The Central Office was transferred to Riveside, San Juan, Rizal where it stayed until 1930.



1924

- Established of the ecclesiastical district of Pangpanga, the first district of the Church of Christ.





1925 JANUARY 2

- Birth of Brother Erano G. Manalo




1925

- Establishment of the Church's second ecclesiastical district in tarlac.


1928

- Establishment of the Church's third ecclesiastical district in laguna.


1929

- Brother Felix instituted the first committee prayer( komite or pulong-panalangin).


1930
- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Nueva Ecija.

- The Church's Central Office was moved to New Manila until 1936.


1931 MARCH 28

- Brother Felix was awarded with the title Master of Biblio-Science, Honoris Causa by the Genius Divinical College of Manilag. It was a recognition given to him by nonmembers.



1931

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Zambales.


1932

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Cavite, Bulacan, and Bataan.


1934 - 1942

- Establishment of more ecclesiastical districts : Pangasinan (1934), Quezon (1936), Batanggas (1936), Cebu (1937), Ilocos Norte (1938), Rizal (1939), Nueva Viscaya (1939), Oriental Mindoro (1948), and Manila (1942).


1935

- During the first election for the officials of the commonwealth government of the philippines, the Church members cast their votes in unity.





1935 AUGUST 28

- Birth of Brother Bienvenido, the youngest son of Brother Felix. Brother Bien currently oversees the INC Engineering and Conrtruction Depatment.


1936

- Establishment of Tambuli ng Silangan - a Christian family organization for the young members.


1936 - 1938

- Because of the growing needs ot the Church, Brother Felix had to transfer the Church's Central Office to Leyba Building, Dasmarinas St.,Manila. It would be moved a few mord times before the first Central Office was constructed in San Juan, Rizal.


1937
- Publication of the Church of Christ hymnbook.


1938 AUGUST
- Journey to the US to undergo medical treatment.





1939 FEBRUARY 21

- Publication of Pasugo, the Church's official magazine, with Brother Felix as its first Editor-in-Chief.





1939 SEPTEMBER 1
- World War II broke out





1941 DECEMBER
- After the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor , Manila was declared an open City. Just a few weeks later, the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines began


1942
- Consolidation of all choir units. Brother Felix assigned Sister Pilar Manalo, his eldest child, to consolidate he choirs of all the Church's congregations



1942 - 1945

- Ordination of Ministers. Amid war, the ordinations of ministers held in 1940 and 1941 were succeeded by more ordinations held in 1943, 1944, 1945.

1943
-Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of La Union.


1945 JULY 14
- Announcement of the liberation of the philippines from Japanese Occupation.


1945

- After the Liberation of the Philippines, all of the Church's local congregation held special worship services, thanking and praising God for his guidance and protection.

- After the war, a Filipino communist group Hukbalahap(Hukbo ng Bayan Laban sa Hapon or People's Army Against the Japanese) tried to Kill Brother Felix. They planned to assassinate the Church leader in Cubao, Pampanga. The plan did not succeed when Brother Felix's travel plans were changed.



1946
- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Cotabato


1947 MAY10
- Ordination of Brother Erano G. Manalo as a minister. Brother Felix Ordained Brother Erano in the house of worship of the Tayuman Congregation in Manila.




1947

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Cagayan


1948

- First Concrete worship building of the Church. Dedication of the worship building of the local congregation of Washington, Sampaloc, Manila.

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Iloilo, Ilocos Sur, Albay, and Camarines Norte.


1949

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Marinduque, Leyte, Negros Occidental, an Mindoro Occidental.


1950

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Catanduanes and Negros Oriental.



1951

- Abra, Masbate, Romblon, and Sorsogon districts were established.





1952 MARCH 17

- Dedication of the worship building of the local congregation of Revirside(now F.Manalo) in San Juan.



1953 JANUARY 28

- Election of successor, in a meeting of district ministers, they unanimously elected Brother Erano G. Manalo as the future Executive Minister of the Church.


1953

- Establishmemt of the ecclesiastical district of Davao and Lanao.


1954
- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Capiz, Misamis Oriental, and Palawan.

- Pastoral visitation to Panay.



1955
- Pastoral visitation to Cebu.


1955 OCTOBER 31
- Birth of Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, Brother Felix's grandson and the eldest child of Brother Erano.





1955

- Brothe Felix returned to the US for a medical treatment.

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Samar, Misamis Occidental, and Bohol.


1956

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district in Mountain Province.



1957

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district of Surigao.



1960

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district in Zamboanga del Zur-Ipil and Camarines Norte.



1962

- Establishment of the ecclesiastical district in Zamboanga del Zur- Pagadian.

- The Church continued to construct concrete ang large houses of worship with the unique INC architectural design, which was conceptualized by Brother Felix himself. Before he passed away, he approved and instructed the plan to build the worship building of Bago Bantay ing Quezon City, Philippines.

- On his sickbed, Brother Felix sent for his Grandson, Brother Eduardo, and placed his hands over the child's head and blessed him in front of several witnesses.



1962 DECEMBER

- Establishment of Buklod, the Christian Family Organization for married members of the Church.


1963 APRIL 12
- Death of Brother Felix Y. Manalo.
